Privacy policy
We collect very little: no accounts, no newsletter, no advertising pixels. Here is exactly what happens to your data on larkmile.com.

Who we are
Larkmile (larkmile.com) is an independent campervan and car hire comparison site. We are the controller of the personal information described here.
Operator: Larkmile. Contact us through our contact form or by email at [email protected].
What we collect and why
When you browse
We don't ask you to sign up and we don't run Google Analytics, Meta pixels or advertising trackers. To deliver and protect the site, our host Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We don't keep our own visitor logs.
To count visits we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It measures page views and load times without cookies and without building a profile of you, and shows us only totals, such as how many people opened a page and from which country.
When you use the contact form
We store your email address and message in Cloudflare D1, plus your name and topic if you choose to add them. Form submissions stay in D1 without automatically forwarding them to our email inbox. We also store the time of the message and a keyed hash of your IP address (not the address itself), used only to limit repeated submissions. We use this to reply to you, fix the pages you tell us about and keep the form free of spam.
Spam protection
The contact page uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending the form. Turnstile processes signals such as your IP address and browser details on our behalf and tells us only whether the check passed. See the Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Affiliate links
Larkmile earns commissions through the travel affiliate network Travelpayouts. Its script turns eligible links to travel brands into tracked affiliate links and reports which pages earn clicks. It loads only if you choose Accept in our cookie banner, and never on the contact page. If you choose Reject, or haven't chosen yet, it doesn't load. Each time it loads, Travelpayouts receives your IP address, browser details and the address of the page. When you follow one of these links, Travelpayouts and the booking site may use cookies to record that you came from us, so we can be credited if you book. Their use of data is covered by the Travelpayouts privacy policy and the booking site's own policy. Details are in our cookie policy.
Your cookie choice
Your browser remembers your answer to the cookie banner in its local storage, under the name lk-consent: whether you accepted or rejected, a version number and the time you chose. It stays on your device, isn't a cookie and isn't sent to us. You can change it at any time with Cookie settings in the site footer or on the cookie policy page. See our cookie policy.
When we reply
Emails sent to [email protected] are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to our inbox hosted by Google (Gmail). We also use Gmail to reply to contact form submissions, so Google processes your email address, our reply and any message content we include in it. We use AI assistants from Anthropic and OpenAI to help us sort messages and write replies, so your message may also be processed by them under their terms.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Your request to answer the messages you send us;
- Your consent for the Travelpayouts script, given with Accept in the cookie banner and withdrawn at any time with Cookie settings;
- Legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and free of spam, and in being credited when you follow one of our links to a booking site;
- Legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. It is processed only by the services that run the site:
| Service | What it does | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, security, cookie-free visit counts (Web Analytics), the database that stores contact messages, and Turnstile | Privacy policy |
| Google (Gmail) | Our email inbox, for replies | Privacy policy |
| Anthropic, OpenAI | AI assistants that help sort messages and write replies | Anthropic ยท OpenAI |
| Travelpayouts | Affiliate link tracking and click reporting | Privacy policy |
| Booking sites you choose to visit | Your search and booking, under their own terms | On their site |
These providers run global services, so your data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. They offer the safeguards set out in their policies, such as standard contractual clauses for transfers from the EU and UK.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages: Form messages become eligible for deletion after 365 days (about 12 months). The form attempts to delete older messages after each accepted submission, and our maintenance checklist includes a monthly manual cleanup. Deletion may occur after the 365-day threshold; it is not scheduled for an exact date. You can ask us to delete your message sooner. Emails sent directly to us and our replies are kept in Gmail for up to 12 months, or deleted sooner if you ask.
- IP hashes for spam limits: kept with the message and deleted with it.
- Affiliate cookies: set and expired by the affiliate network and booking site, usually after about 30 days.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can object to how we use it. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you can also ask for a copy in a portable format and ask us to restrict processing. Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can access and correct your information. Send your request through the contact form or by email, and we'll reply within 30 days.
If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority: the OAIC in Australia, the ICO in the UK, or your local authority in the EU.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Contact form messages sit in a private Cloudflare D1 database accessed by Larkmile. Our email and AI providers do not have direct access to that database. The form checks every submission server-side before storing it.
Children
Larkmile is written for adults planning a trip and hiring a vehicle. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, tell us and we'll delete them.
Changes
When we change how we handle data, we update this page and its date first. If a change is significant, we say so at the top of the page.
